2027: “Anyone Seeking To Lead Nigeria Should Explain Cost Of Their Promises” – Tinubu Tells Peter Obi, Atiku, Others

President Bola Tinubu has challenged those seeking to lead Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections

President Bola Tinubu has challenged those seeking to lead Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election to explain how much their campaign promises will cost, how they intend to fulfil them and whether they can sustain them financially.

The president made this known in a post on his X account on Sunday, October 11, 2026, stressing that government commitments must be backed by credible plans and sustainable funding.

Tinubu said leaders must provide immediate relief to Nigerians without compromising the future of the country’s children.Access Services

“As President, I have a duty to provide relief today without compromising our children’s future.

“Every commitment must be sustainable and backed by a credible plan. That responsibility guides our decisions, including the difficult ones,” he said.

The president urged political aspirants to consider the financial implications of their proposals rather than make promises that could leave future generations with the burden of settling the costs.

“Anyone seeking to lead Nigeria should be prepared to explain what their promises will cost, how they will deliver them, and whether they can sustain them.

“Promises are easy to make when the costs can be postponed, leaving Nigerians and future generations to pay the bill,” he added.

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to affordable transportation across the country, noting that the Federal Government would continue working with state governments to make it accessible to more communities.

“Our responsibility is to keep expanding access until affordable transportation becomes a reality for more communities across our country.

“That is the work we will continue in collaboration with the States,” he added.
